By extracting hydrogen from solid waste we can significantly contribute to landfill diversion and methane reduction targets, an increasingly urgent problem worldwide.
Global generation of municipal solid waste is expected to grow 70% from ~2 billion tonnes today to 3.4 billion tonnes by 2050, owing to population growth, urbanization, and economic development.
Waste disposal currently accounts for ~3% of global greenhouse gas (“GHG”) emissions, primarily from uncaptured methane released from organics degradation in landfills. Methane is a potent GHG, 28x stronger than carbon dioxide and accounts for over 30% of global warming.
It was announced at the COP26 Summit that methane reduction is a global priority. A sustainable, scalable solution is needed – which is where we come in.
